Dutch program

The Dutch classes are offered as an integrated course at the Awty
International School. We are the only school in Houston offering the complete Dutch curriculum from PK4 (Dutch group 1) through 12th grade!

The Awty International School is unique in the fact it comprises two different school systems in one school:

Students in the International section follow a curriculum that leads to both a high school diploma and the International Baccalaureate diploma. The language of instruction is English.
Students in the French section follow the curriculum that is set by the French Ministry of Education and will receive both the American high school diploma and the French Baccalaureate diploma at the end of 12th grade. The language of instruction is French.

Bilingualism is very highly rated at the school and because of this unique situation NTC Houston is able to offer the students Dutch classes every day, during their normal school day. Students in the Lower School receive 6 hours of Dutch education per week (5 hours for students from the French section) and students in the Middle- and Upper School 5 hours.

Students at Awty can take Dutch through their entire school career. Integrated classes start in grade  PK4 and finish with the International Baccalaureate A1 or A2 in 12th grade. We use modern language methods, all of which are in accordance with the standards of the Dutch Ministry of Education and are used by many Dutch schools. But we don’t just emphasize linguistic aspects; we also recognize the importance of culture. Through a variety of projects and by celebrating Dutch holidays such as ‘Sinterklaas’ and ‘Bevrijdingsdag’, students will acquire valuable knowledge about their heritage.

Awty also offers an after-school program, called Dutch Plus. This program is open to students (4-18 years) who are enrolled at other schools in the greater Houston area.
